Hays Code

Hays Code

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from United States Motion Picture Production Code of 19305)

The Production Code (popularly known as the Hays11 Code or the Breen12 Office) was the set of industry censorship guidelines, and the office enforcing them, which governed the production of United States motion pictures13 from 1930 to 1968. The Motion Pictures Producers and Distributors Association (MPPDA), which later became the Motion Picture Association of America14 (MPAA), adopted the code in 193015, began effectively enforcing it in 193416, and abandoned it in 196817 in favor of the subsequent MPAA film rating system18. The Production Code spelled out what was morally acceptable19 and morally unacceptable content for motion pictures produced for a public audience in the United States.

In the 1993 film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Bruce Lee and his girl friend, Linda Emery, watch the film at the theater, but Linda suggest they leave midway after she notices that Bruce is upset at the stereotypical depiction of an Asian man portrayed by Mickey Rooney.

On Google Calendar, the example event is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

Another film starring Hepburn, Paris, When It Sizzles (1963), references Breakfast At Tiffany’s directly when Holden’s Character says people are “having breakfast at Tiffany’s”.

In The Simpsons episode “I’m with Cupid”, several of the men are spying on Apu at Springfield’s Tiffany & Co. Instead of buying a diamond like they expect, he comes out with a croissant. Chief Wiggum says “Aw, that’s right, they have breakfast at Tiffany’s now.”[7]

Mexican standoff 是什么

Mexican standoff

Mexican standoff

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mexican standoff is a strategic deadlock or impasse, in which no party can act in a way that ensures victory.
Contents

Origins

The phrase came into usage during the late 19th century. Originally a derogatory reference to perceived Mexican political indecision,[1] it has come to refer to any impasse, regardless of the participants or the presence of arms.

In popular culture

In popular culture, the Mexican standoff is often portrayed as multiple opponents with weapons aimed at each other,[2] such that each opponent feels equally threatened and does not believe they can strike first without endangering their own life; not only does any initial shot decisively destroy the unstable equilibrium of multiple deterrence, shooting any one person takes one's aim away from the other opponent. [3][4] The Mexican standoff is now largely considered a movie cliché due to its frequent use in spaghetti westerns and action films.[citation needed]

Smith later discovers that account 21214 is actually a slush fund where Emery is moving money belonging to the Arabs into gold as a safe haven against potential losses if the dollar collapses. The Arabs are extremely worried that if anyone finds out their assets will vanish in a public panic as American currency becomes worthless.
